  • Chris Klieman’s Bold Strategy: Kansas Kids Leading the Way
Can Chris Klieman take a roster full of Kansas kids and win the Big 12 conference? While this may have been unthinkable in the past, this season there are 21 players from Kansas on the two-deep depth chart for K-State. Heck, the starting backfield, Avery Johnson, Dylan Edwards, and DJ Giddens, are all from Kansas. Johnson will likely complete passes to tight end Will Anciaux and receiver Sterling Lockett, both also from Kansas, as the season progresses. And three starting…

  • From The Couch – K-State vs. UT Martin: Reflections on K-State’s First Game of the Season
K-State dominated UT Martin on the scoreboard and in the box score on Saturday, winning 41 to 6. It was a competitive game into the third quarter when K-State finally pulled away. If not for a blocked punt returned for a touchdown in the first quarter, K-State would have only led by a touchdown at half. Instead, they went into halftime up 17 to 3. K-State head coach Chris Klieman challenged the players at halftime, and whatever he told them…

  • Profiles In K-State Fandom – Tracey Faulkner
The 18th installment of “Profiles in K-State Fandom” features Tracey Faulkner. Tracey and I met through a mutual friend of ours, Scott Thomas, who unfortunately, died of lung cancer a few years ago. I went to school with Scott and Scott met Tracey via one of the K-State message boards. I had different friend that never met Tracey in person, but saw his many posts in a K-State sports Facebook group on social media, who commented “at first, I didn’t…

  • K-State vs. UT Martin: What to Watch For This Saturday
“Man, I’m as excited as you guys are.” That was K-State head coach Chris Klieman’s reply to a reporter who asked about quarterback Avery Johnson during Monday’s press conference. The Avery Johnson era is upon us, and even K-State’s head coach cannot wait to watch him on the field against UT Martin on Saturday. While UT Martin is no slouch (they have won three conference championships in a row) I expect K-State to take care of business against this FCS…

  • From The Couch – K-State Football Buzz
K-State head coach Chris Klieman and selected players met with the media yesterday. If these quotes don’t get you pumped up for Saturday, I don’t know what will. Here we go… JM: Hyperbole? Probably, but I think DJ Giddens is going to have a fantastic season. He’s getting Heisman odds now, so I put a buck on him! JM: Yes, that is correct. Sterling Lockett is listed as a backup receiver and it looks like he and Dylan Edwards will…

  • College Gameday Crew’s Big 12 Champion Predictions
I’m good with anyone picking Utah, but West Virginia? That’s quite a stretch. Oh, well. Bulletin board material!
  • Sterling Lockett Practice Clips
Sterling Lockett has received a lot of buzz during spring and fall practice sessions. It sounds like he could have an impact this fall. I can’t wait to see him play in person.

Perfect punt return blocking by K-State! the 52-17 win against Wyoming in the 1993 Copper Bowl was definitely one of the “most fun” K-State games I’ve ever watched.

Well this one is gonna be kinda weird. Quite a few people have asked me to do a “Profile In K-State Fandom” on myself. I am normally quite self-deprecating in person and don’t really feel worthy to do one on myself, but I finally decided “what the heck” and to go ahead and do it. So here you go. A question and answer session….with myself. Tell me a little bit about your background.  Where were you born/where did you grow…

  • Impact of Adding Matt Wells: A Statistical Analysis
One of the biggest questions for K-State going into the 2024 football season is the offense breaking in a new quarterback with two new offensive coordinators, Conor Riley and Matt Wells. Officially, Riley is listed as the offensive coordinator and Wells is the co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach/associate head coach. One would assume that Riley, K-State’s offensive line coach the previous five seasons, will call plays with input from Wells. They have plenty of weapons to work with, but there will likely…

  • 2024 Heisman Contenders: Will Howard vs. Avery Johnson
College Football Report released this graphic of the top 20 Heisman contenders for 2024. Will Howard is number six and Avery Johnson is number 20. I’d put money on Howard before Johnson, just because the Heisman usually goes to the best quarterback on the best team, and I think Ohio State is more likely to be the best team than K-State it. What do you think?
  • Big 12 Football 2024: Impact of Defense on Championship Contenders | Analyzing K-State’s Prospects
As a follower of the Kansas City sports scene for around 40 years now, it seems like the stars are aligning in 2024 for all the local sports teams. It is almost like we are living in an alternate universe or bizarro world. The Kansas City Chiefs are favored to win their third straight Super Bowl, which would make them the only NFL team in history to do so, the Kansas City Royals are in playoff contention, Kansas football is…

The 16th installment of “Profiles in K-State Fandom” features Katie Porter! Katie and I “met” on Twitter/X and she was nominated by a previous honoree. Katie has met and been pictured with many K-State sports figures and head coaches over the years, as you’ll see in the slideshow below. She claims that 90 percent of her wardrobe is purple. She’s barely got me beat. I am sure you will enjoy learning about this K-State super fan! JM: Tell me a…

  • Unheralded Star: DJ Giddens’ Remarkable Impact on K-State Football
Perusing the annual K-State media guide probably sounds boring to most people, but I love reading it when it is released. I’ve always loved numbers and statistics, so my favorite sections of the guide are the individual player records. As a little preview of the upcoming season, I like to check it out and see if any players on this year’s football team might be positioned to break some school records this fall. K-State has a pretty young roster right…

Football season is 27 days away and the hype is starting to pick up, but there is plenty of basketball news to share as well. Let’s get right into it. JM: The commitment of Collins will likely turn out to be an underrated one. He is a three-star player, but a speedy one… “Collins, 5-foot-11, 175-pound defensive back from Staley High School in Kansas City, won the 200-meter dash with a Missouri Class 5 record time of 21.23 seconds and…

  • Potential First-Team All-Big 12 Football Players for K-State’s 2024 Season
The media preseason all-Big 12 football team was voted on and published a few weeks ago, and I was surprised to see that not one K-State Wildcat was selected. It is odd, considering K-State is one of the contenders to win the league this fall. Curiously, the following programs had more than two players selected: Oklahoma State: 6Arizona: 5Iowa State: 3Colorado: 3Utah: 3Texas Tech: 2UCF: 2Cincinnati: 2The University of Kansas: 2 Hopefully, K-State’s players take it to heart and try…

  • Rapid Fire – K-State Football, Basketball, and Baseball In The News
There has been K-State news in multiple sports this week, so let’s do a round of Rapid Fire. Here we GO! -EA Sports College Football 25 is out. I liked playing the NCAA football video game back in the day, but I’m pretty sure I’ve outgrown video games. One of the interesting things to me is how the developers rated the players. Who would you guess is the highest-rated K-State player in the game? Avery Johnson? Dylan Edwards? Jacob Parrish?…

  • ESPN Writer Bill Connelly Is Way Off Base
The time has come to write an article that I never thought I would have to write. In the past few months, I have read and heard from K-State fans comparing Chris Klieman and Bill Snyder from a historical perspective. They are asking, “Who is the better coach?” I have dismissed questions like that as ridiculous. It is too early in Chris Kleiman’s tenure to have a discussion comparing him to one of the best coaches in the history of…
