Matt Gilhool Joins Kansas State Men’s Basketball Program

Kansas State Men’s Basketball has welcomed Matt Gilhool, a 6-foot-11, 213-pound forward from Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, to its roster for the 2026-27 season. The announcement of his commitment was made on Friday, April 24, 2026, as part of first-year head coach Casey Alexander’s new signing class.

Gilhool transfers to K-State after redshirting his true freshman year at LSU during the 2025-26 season under coach Matt McMahon. Despite not playing in his freshman year, he brings significant potential to the Wildcats, having been a highly-touted four-star recruit coming out of high school.

Before his time at LSU, Gilhool was recognized as the top prospect in the state of Pennsylvania by both 247Sports and Rivals. He garnered consensus four-star ratings from 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals, with all three services ranking him among the top 20 power forwards nationally. As a senior at William Penn Charter, he led his team to an impressive 24-5 record, averaging 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. He also earned Non-PIAA First Team All-State honors from the Pennsylvania Sportswriters Association.

Gilhool is known for being a skilled and mobile left-handed big man who can stretch the floor. Scouts have noted his soft touch, clean mechanics, and ability to be an efficient finisher near the basket. He is also agile for his size, capable of running the floor, and has shown potential as a passer and a weakside rim protector. He held several scholarship offers from other notable programs, including Georgia Tech, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Miami, Mississippi State, Penn State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Washington, and Temple. Gilhool will have four years of eligibility remaining with the Kansas State Wildcats.
