From The Couch – The Scoop On Jerome Tang’s First Commit, Jerrell Colbert

Jerome Tang’s first commitment came from Jerrell Colbert, a 6’10”, 216 pound center transfer from LSU. He was rated as a three-star prospect out of high school and ranked as the 134th best player in the 2021 class according to 247Sports. Rivals had him rated as a four-star player. He played in four games as a true freshman at LSU, making one of four shots from the field, with five rebounds, and blocked three shots.

This appears to be a pretty good get for Jerome Tang, but the question I have is why didn’t he play more at LSU? Sure LSU had a pretty loaded roster, but Colbert didn’t really see the floor at all. As I looked more into Colbert’s background and highlights, I like what I see and can see that he has a lot of potential, so I’m excited about what he can bring to the table.

JM: Tang has been recruiting Colbert for a long time. Colbert was considering going to Baylor before he committed to LSU.

JM: This is a neat hype video. The staff at the K-State athletic department does a great job on these.

“Thin but has great length for a skilled power forward. Very mobile and a quality athlete. Has good footwork offensively. Can score facing up off dribble and can score turning to either shoulder. Adequate ball handler and passer at this point. Has potential as a jump shooter and potential overall offensively. Good rebounder and top notch shot blocker. High ceiling as a prospect. Does need to fill out some and get stronger.”…Scouting report on 247Sports

JM: I found a couple of highlight videos of Colbert and I would agree that he is very mobile and has good footwork. He’s also not afraid to take the ball to the basket and dunk it.

JM: I found one other highlight video that you can view here:

JM: I like the “plays all out every possession” comment. Having a good motor is always a good thing!

We’ll have to see how Colbert develops within Tang’s system. He appears to have lots of potential and skill, so that’s a good start.
