From The Couch – Jerome Tang Reportedly Hosting Five-Star Forward Julian Phillips Next Week

Jerome Tang and his staff continue to make waves on the recruiting front. Five-star forward Julian Phillips, a former LSU commit who was granted a release from his letter of intent after head coach Will Wade was fired, will reportedly visit Manhattan, Kansas in the next week.

JM: While getting a commitment from Phillips may be a long shot, the fact that he is expressing interest in coming to Manhattan is huge. The AAU coach that Caleb mentioned is Rodney Perry, who is expected to join the K-State coaching staff. If they can land Phillips, look out.

In the meantime, one of the most prolific scorers in college basketball recently entered the transfer portal and is visiting K-State this weekend…..

JM: Davis played the last four years at Detroit Mercy, where his Dad, Mike Davis, is the head coach. Check out his scoring numbers…

JM: Davis has averaged 24.6 points per game for his career. He led the Horizon League in scoring each of his four seasons and was third in the NCAA in scoring last season. I haven’t found a good answer to the question as to why he is transferring, but he would be a great addition to the Wildcat roster.

“In other UM basketball news, highly rated Kansas State transfer guard Nijel Pack will announce his college decision on Saturday afternoon and Miami is one of three finalists, along with Ohio State and Purdue.”…Miami Herald, April 23, 2022

JM: For those holding out hope that Pack might return to K-State, it looks like he isn’t.

JM: Apparently, Baier is one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the country. The rest of the K-State coaching staff sure are excited about this hiring.

JM: Baier comes from Miami, who was in the Elite 8 this year. I trust these guys that this is a great hire. It’s a lot of fun following K-State basketball again.
