From The Couch – K-State News And Notes For January 31, 2022

Here’s some news from the world of K-State sports…

JM: Ex-Kansas State offensive lineman and former head coach of Youngstown State, Eric Wolford, is heading to Alabama to work for Nick Saban as their offensive line coach. Congratulations to Eric. He was a member of Bill Snyder’s first recruiting class at K-State and has had a successful coaching career thus far. He keeps moving on up.

JM: Skylar Thompson and Russ Yeast are playing in the East/West Shrine Bowl this Thursday at 7:00. The game will be broadcast on NFL Network. Football’s not quite done yet!

JM: Football season tickets go on sale Wednesday. The Wildcats have a pretty good home schedule this fall. The non-conference slate is South Dakota, Missouri, and Tulane. The conference home games are Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Kansas.

JM: Congratulations to Ayoka Lee for making the top 20 watch list for women’s player of the year in college basketball. The next women’s game is Wednesday at 6:30 in Ames against Iowa State. You can watch it on ESPN Plus.

JM: The women’s basketball team held steady at number 25 in this week’s AP Poll after a loss at Texas and a win against TCU on Saturday.

JM: Even though the women’s team is ranked number 25 in the AP Poll, they are projected as a four seed in the NCAA tournament. This was pretty neat to see.

JM: Mark Smith is still leading the Big 12 in rebounding. He is second in rebounding in conference games, averaging 8.0 rebounds per game behind David McCormack of Kansas, who is averaging 9.14 rebounds per game.

JM: Jet is following his brother Jax to K-State as a walk-on this fall. He is a great athlete and it’s not yet been decided what position he will play at K-State. He played defensive back and quarterback at Lawrence Free State and was a finalist for the Simone Award last fall. He set the single-season record for offensive yards in a season at Free State. This could be a diamond-in-the-rough find for the Wildcats.
