From The Couch – K-State Basketball Is Back And Football Makes An Appearance In The College Football Playoff Rankings
K-State basketball won its first and only exhibition game of the season Tuesday night against Washburn, 76 to 49. My general thoughts after one game are that Jerome Tang’s team is athletic, scrappy, defensive-minded, and aggressive in rebounding the basketball. How much will they win? That’s hard to say, but I think it’s fair to say that this team will NOT finish last place in the Big 12 as every prognosticator has said. There’s too much talent on the team for that to happen.
Chris Klieman’s football team made an appearance in the first release of the College Football Playoff rankings, hosted a couple of recruits at the Oklahoma State game, and got a commitment from one of them.
Here’s the latest from the world of K-State sports….
JM: 6,800 is a pretty good number for an exhibition game against Washburn. Jerome Tang seemed pleased with the attendance and student section when asked about it, but also said he’d prefer a sellout. Keep winning and that will happen.
JM: This was nice to see.
JM: K-State is the second-highest ranked two loss team behind LSU, who was ranked number 10. While the college football playoff is likely out of reach for the Wildcats, the Big 12 championship is well within reach.
JM: Watson is a six foot, two inch 185 pound three-star receiver from College Station, Texas. He de-committed from Colorado and was offered by Oklahoma State and Houston along with K-State. He liked what he saw in Manhattan and quickly changed his commitment.
JM: Castillo is a five-star basketball recruit from Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He is the 17th best player in the 2024 class according to 247Sports composite rankings. He is getting recruited by all of the big boys, so it will be interesting to see if K-State remains on his radar.
JM: Future K-State quarterback Avery Johnson was also in Manhattan on Saturday sporting his purple Wildcat gear. Not only is this kid a star on the field, but off the field as well.
JM: Jordy Nelson becomes the third K-Stater to be inducted into the Green Bay Packer hall of fame after Lynn Dickey and Paul Coffman. Congratulations to Jordy.

Joe, love your articles,
Best read by far! If we can finish business this year and win the big 12 championship, can’t see them not putting us in the top 5 and remember all our losses 2 Lasalle TCU are ranked opponents, if our basketball team improves they could be really good, lot more talent to start with than last 10 years , offence was suspect but it’s got potential! We won’t be last and l think we will be in top half of league and l think the other shoe about to drop on Dollar Bills Club!
