From The Couch – Florida Transfer Keyontae Johnson Commits To K-State

Florida transfer Keyontae Johnson made it official today, announcing his commitment to Kansas State. Johnson was SEC Preseason player of the year in 2020-21, when he averaged 16 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists per game. Here’s the scoop…

“I chose Kansas State because the coaching staff wants their players to get better every day and the fan base is one of the top in the country.”

JM: High praise from yet another recruit about the coaching staff and the fan base. Seems to be a common theme.

“Kansas State beat out Memphis, Nebraska and Western Kentucky for the former Gators star.

Johnson hasn’t played in a game since he collapsed during a game in Decemeber 2020. Other than having a ceremonial start on his senior day at Florida last season, Johnson remained on the sidelines working as a scout and assistant coach for former Gators coach Mike White.

Through two full seasons and his third season’s four games he started in, Johnson averaged 11 points and 6.5 rebounds in 72 appearances.

Johnson has been medically cleared to play, Goodman says, so despite the health concerns, Johnson could be making his college basketball comeback for the 2022–23 season.“…Madison Williams, SI.com, 8/20/2022

JM: The heart condition is a concern, but as long as he’s medically cleared to play it hopefully will not be an issue going forward.

JM: And once again, “Kansas State” is trending on Twitter!

JM: There is still one open scholarship for 2022-23, but I’m not sure they’re going to fill it. I’m starting to like how this looks moving forward.

JM: His highlights show good range and quickness, which should help K-State immensely. Here is a video of his senior night start…

JM: Jerome Tang and his staff continue to make waves on the recruiting trail! The excitement around K-State basketball continues to grow.
