From The Couch – College Football Is Here! K-State Sports News And Notes From The Past Week

College football is here, with a handful of games kicking off today. K-State starts the season next week against South Dakota at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, but first there is some basketball news to get to and then we’ll take a look at where some of the national publications have picked K-State football to finish the 2022 season.

“We like both his size and skill set and think he will grow into a productive player once he gets around our elite staff.”…Jerome Tang on Anthony Thomas

JM: Jerome Tang’s quote about Thomas tells me that he’s a project. Thomas is a 6’7″ 180-pound guard (?) from Tallahassee, Florida Community College. He started 16 of 25 games, averaged 11 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists, and shot 42.3% from the field and 34.6% from 3-point range last season. Thomas sure is skinny being that tall and only 180 pounds. They’ll probably have to get him in the weight room and feed him some cheeseburgers! This is the 13th and final roster spot for the 2022-23 Wildcats, so the roster is now full.

JM: This is very sad news for Ayoka Lee, but hopefully she’ll come back from this surgery better than ever in 2023-24.

JM: I love hearing stories like this. Tang sure is winning in the court of public opinion. He’s also winning on the recruiting trail. Will he win on the court? Stay tuned…

JM: This is a note on Twitter from Keyontae Johnson, the basketball transfer from Florida. Looks like he is enjoying Manhattan so far!

JM: This one is kind of a bummer. Ja’Kobi Lane is a four-star receiver recruited by Chris Klieman and the K-State football staff. He announced yesterday that he is going to USC.

JM: If the 7-5 (5-4) record that ESPN predicts for the Wildcats comes to fruition, there are going to be a lot of disappointed K-State fans. Meanwhile, Bleacher Report has the Wildcats with the same conference record, but beating Missouri.

JM: What do you think? Are they right or off base? I have the Cats going 9-3 (6-3), which is one game better than these guys, in the Big 12.

JM: In the category of “videos I could watch over and over again,” see the video above.

We’re one week away from kickoff. Can’t wait to see you all next weekend!
