From The Couch – Two New Basketball Commitments, A Couple Of High-Profile Visits, And Two Football Wildcats Get Drafted
There continues to be a lot of buzz around K-State basketball recruiting. 6’5″ guard Dorian Finister and 6’10” Juco transfer Nae’qwan Tomlin committed to K-State today. Finister is Jerome Tang’s first high school commitment. He is a three-star player according to 247Sports, rated 230th nationally and the 30th best shooting guard. Both Finister and Tomlin will be eligible this fall.
JM: I like the pictures the recruits take with the coaching staff and their family members. K-State is really welcoming them to the family! You can view Finister’s commitment announcement below…
JM: Finister has high goals, mentioning that his ultimate goal is to play in the NBA.
JM: Ish Massoud welcomed Finister on Twitter and also provided a short teaser of more to come. Before we get to that, you can view some of Finister’s highlights below…
JM: Jerome Tang received his second commitment today from Nae’Qwan Tomlin, a 6’10” Juco forward transfer, considered by some to be the top Juco player available.
JM: Here are some of his highlights…
JM: Hearing about these commitments is good news, but the most exciting news of the day is that there are a couple of very good recruits coming to visit Manhattan this weekend…..
JM: Blocker is a 6’2″ point guard and is rated as a four-star player and the number 32 player overall in the class of 2023 by 247Sports. He will be joined by another high-profile recruit this weekend.
JM: 6’8″ power forward Phillips is a five-star player ranked as the number 12 player nationally by 247Sports. Does Jerome Tang have a legitimate shot at getting this blue-chipper? Phillips was coached in high school by Rodney Perry, who is joining the K-State coaching staff. K-State may have as good of a shot as any at getting him.
JM: Phillips is a four-star center in the class of 2022, rated as the number 113 overall player by 247Sports. He visited campus this past weekend and is announcing his choice on May 17th….
JM: Exciting times! There was also some football news this past weekend, as both Skylar Thompson and Russ Yeast were drafted in the 7th round of the NFL draft. Thompson was drafted 247th overall by the Miami Dolphins and Yeast was drafted 253rd overall by the Los Angeles Rams. Here is video of Skylar Thompson getting the call.
JM: It’s pretty neat seeing the call from two different perspectives.
JM: You know what is also pretty neat? Being the first player ever selected in the NFL Draft from your high school. That’s something you can hang your hat on forever!
JM: Glad to see so many Wildcats get signed as free agents. Hope a good number of them can make it. Congratulations to everyone.
