Top Five Big 12 Games 2010 to 2014

The five years from 2010 to 2014 were not only entertaining on the field, but conference realignment affected the Big 12 conference in a big way.  2010 was the last year that all of the original Big 12 teams played in the conference.  Nebraska and Colorado left after the 2010 season and Missouri and Texas A&M played their final Big 12 schedules in 2011.  TCU and West Virginia joined and began playing in the league in 2012, which is the configuration that remains to this day.

Kansas State, Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Oklahoma State all had teams ranked in the top five in the country while playing for the Big 12 during these years.  I hope you enjoy a look back at some of the top Big 12 games from 2010 to 2014.

TCU at Baylor, October 11, 2014

Number five Baylor hosted number nine TCU in Waco in this classic game.  Baylor kicker Chris Callahan kicked a 28-yard field goal as time expired to give Baylor the 61-58 victory.  TCU had a 58-37 lead in the 4th quarter, but Baylor scored 24 unanswered points to get the victory.

Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty passed for 510 yards and six touchdowns in the game.

Baylor at Kansas State, October 1, 2011

Kansas State beat number 15 Baylor in Manhattan 36-35.  Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III passed for 346 yards and five touchdowns but threw an interception to K-State linebacker Arthur Brown, who bobbled the ball and almost dropped it, with a few minutes left in the game to set up K-State’s game-winning field goal.  Baylor had another chance with the ball at the end of the game, but K-State held them on downs.  I was there in person for this one and on Baylor’s first down play of that possession, Griffin scrambled and was sacked by Arthur Brown, who closed on the quarterback so fast that he came into my peripheral vision like a blur.  It was one of the most impressive plays I’ve seen and helped preserve the victory for K-State.

West Virginia 70 Baylor 63, September 29, 2012

Number nine West Virginia beat number 25 Baylor 70-63 in what remains the highest-scoring game in Big 12 history.  Baylor quarterback Nick Florence passed for 581 yards and five touchdowns and Baylor receiver Terrance Williams had 314 yards receiving and two touchdowns.  They were outdone by West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith, who had 656 yards passing and eight touchdowns, and West Virginia receiver Stedman Bailey, who had 303 yards receiving and five touchdowns and Tavon Austin who added 215 yards and two touchdowns.

Texas 41 Oklahoma State 36, September 29, 2012

Number 12 Texas beat Oklahoma State 41-36 in Stillwater on a controversial touchdown run with 29 seconds left in the game.  A touchdown was called on the field, but it appeared that Texas running back Joe Bergeron fumbled the ball before crossing the goal line and it was recovered by Oklahoma State.   The officials reviewed the play, but the touchdown stood.
