News surrounding K-State has been coming fast and furious, so it is a great time for a new version of Rapid Fire. Here we go.

-The Avery Johnson era has officially begun at K-State. The Wildcats had THREE quarterbacks enter the transfer portal…Will Howard, Jake Rubley, and Adryan Lara. The Wildcats are giving away quarterbacks as Oprah gives away cars. Honestly, I think all three saw the handwriting on the wall that Johnson will be K-State’s starting quarterback in 2024 and decided to bail in order to see some playing time elsewhere. My question now is, who will be Johnson’s backup?

-K-State’s football recruiting hasn’t exactly been lighting the world on fire. The 2024 class ranks 15th in the Big 12 according to On3 and 247Sports. That’s not good.

-Running back Treshaun Ward and cornerback Will Lee also announced their intention to transfer. I liked Ward, but starter DJ Giddens has done just fine and is only a sophomore. Losing Lee is a big blow to the program. He made waves for his assist on one of Iowa State running back Abu Sama’s long touchdown runs on Saturday, but Lee has had a strong year in the K-State secondary. It will be difficult to replace him.

-Tight End Ben Sinnott broke the K-State single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end with 676 yards. Will Sinnott forego his senior season and declare for the NFL draft? I sure hope not. He could be a weapon for Avery Johnson in 2024.

-The K-State basketball team has been underwhelming so far. The Wildcats are 5-2 after beating Oral Roberts by 10 points in overtime on Tuesday night. Not having suspended forward Nae’Qwan Tomlin has hurt the team, as he is far and away their best player. The Wildcats have some nice pieces and talent, but they look discombobulated on the court at times. Right now, without Tomlin, I see them as a bubble team.

-Offensive lineman Cooper Beebe was selected as Big 12 offensive lineman of the year for the second year in a row. Beebe is also a finalist for the Outland Trophy with two other players, the only Wildcat to be named a finalist for that award, which is awarded to the best interior lineman in college football. I am going to miss watching Beebe play.

-Abu Sama just ran for another 70-yard touchdown.

-Seriously though, 276 yards and three touchdowns? He averaged 17.2 yards per carry? The K-State defense should be embarrassed.

-That said, if the game had been played with no snow, I think K-State would win. Unfortunately, it’s just a gut instinct of mine, and I can’t prove it. The snow affected K-State’s defensive players much more than it did any of Iowa State’s players.

-K-State is rumored to be in consideration to be selected to play in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. I’m not thrilled about my team playing in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. I even heard the Pop-Tarts Bowl mascot is edible. No joke. Eww.

-Go Oklahoma State. We are all (or should be) Cowboys fans on Saturday against Texas. Let’s go!
