From The Couch – Welcome Back To The Big 12, Colorado
I am not a fan of the Colorado Buffaloes. Never have been. Their fans have always been arrogant and condescending. Add Deion Sanders and his spoiled brat kids into the mix, and they are one of the most unlikeable programs in all of college football. No matter what the media wants to spin to all of us.
That made K-State’s 31-28 victory over Colorado in Boulder Saturday night/Sunday morning the most satisfying K-State victory in quite some time.
I flew out to Arizona for a week of rest and relaxation early Sunday morning, so I apologize the column is late, but here are some of the game highlights with my thoughts on what I saw from the couch.
JM: Avery Johnson was good and bad in the game, but I enjoyed this “Neon Deion” touchdown dance celebration. Johnson competed 15 of 23 passes for 224 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The interception came with four minutes left in the game on a 4th and six from Colorado’s 31 yard line. Colorado returned it 59 yards to the K-State 17 yard line and two plays later Colorado scored a touchdown to go ahead 28-24. Part of me liked the aggressiveness of Chris Klieman wanting to put the game away with his offense and part of me wanted to punt and pin Colorado’s defense deep in their territory. Multiple injuries to K-State’s defense likely swayed Klieman’s decision.
JM: It was nice seeing Dylan Edwards get a touchdown in his return to Boulder, but the star of the evening in K-State’s backfield was DJ Giddens.
JM: Rumors are the Colorado training staff went on the field after this play to retrieve Shilo Sanders’ jock strap.
JM: At least he’s honest.
JM: Avery Johnson redeemed himself after the interception by throwing what ended up being the game-winning touchdown to Jayce Brown.
JM: Jayce Brown is on track to be K-State’s next star receiver.
JM: I’ve said it every week and I’ll say it again. When this offense really gets humming, K-State will be hard to beat. By anyone.
JM: If this production by DJ Giddens continues and they don’t give him the Heisman, they should just stop giving out the award. Giddens is averaging 7.28 yards per carry on 108 attempts. He has been spectacular so far, and I hope voters are taking notice.
K-State plays at West Virginia this Saturday at 6:30 PM. It won’t be easy, but if K-State gets healthy, plays their game, and doesn’t turn the ball over, they should find success.
