From The Couch – Week 2 College Football Roundup

Trying something a little different this week. A lot of interesting things happened in college football over the weekend, so I thought it would be fun to do a recap of all the major storylines. Enjoy…

JM: KU’s hype video was probably meant to get their fanbase fired up for the game. The “we are good, you are bad” vibe didn’t really bother me, and neither did the throwback to the Civil War differences. To me, it is poking fun and that’s what college rivalries should be all about. However, Missouri’s coaches and players didn’t take too kindly to it…

JM: Fans flipping off players and players flipping off fans has been going on forever, but it is still not a good look for the Missouri players. But we only saw one camera angle of what was going on here.

JM: I saw this meme and thought it might not be real, but it is. Eli Drinkwitz started trolling KU and its fans after the game. Check these posts out…

JM: Drinkwitz’s post is in reaction to Jack Settleman’s post saying they were going to tear down the goalposts IF they win.

JM: Who is Jack Settleman? I have no idea. Why does Eli Drinkwitz know who he is and why does he care what he says? I also have no idea. But Drinkwitz wasn’t done…

JM: You might be thinking to yourself, “Ok, now he’s done, right?” You would be incorrect.

JM: It has never been a secret that Drinkwitz has much disdain for the University of Kansas, but he was in rare form after this game.

JM: There was almost a huge brawl between KU and MU players after the game. But were MU players really banging a “KU drum?” I watched another video of the scrum and the drum has an MU logo on one side and a KU logo on the other…

JM: I don’t blame KU players for being mad. MU ran up the score on them at the end.

JM: The final touchdown in question…

JM: At least one Missouri media personality was not happy at all with the behavior of Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz and his players…

JM: My first thought was “lighten up, Francis.” I chuckled a bit at KU’s video and was amused at Eli Drinkwitz’s comments. I’m no fan of KU and I say they reap what they sow. I think it’s much ado about nothing, but I do find it odd that Drinkwitz was trolling KU fans on X. I’m not sure another coach that would do that.

Onto something more positive…

JM: This is a neat tradition. I tried really hard to watch this game, but it was mostly boring, just what I expected. Glad the Ohio State/Texas game was on a different channel. Speaking of that, Texas pulled off quite a comeback to score a touchdown with under a minute left in the game to win it.

JM: In my unbiased opinion, Ohio State blew this one. Pretty crazy game though. Am I the only one that thinks Arch Manning is just okay?

JM: There was a lightning delay during the K-State/Washington State game in Manhattan and this Washington State fan decided to run onto the field. Why, I don’t know. They eventually caught him.

JM: In the biggest upset of the day, unranked Oklahoma State beat number three ranked Oregon 39-31, causing quite the celebration in Stillwater.

JM: I like all of this except for the “we do not condone taking down the goalposts.” Come on. This is a HUGE victory. Let the students have some fun. These athletic departments can pay their quarterback five million dollars a year, but can’t afford to replace the goalposts every once in a while, after a big victory? Word is that the Big 12 is also going to fine Oklahoma State $50,000 for storming the field, with is ridiculous.

JM: I am a little bit richer because of Michigan’s win over Oklahoma. I saw this one coming a mile away. Not that I was rooting for them. I was rooting for my pocketbook.

Let me know if you like this format. I’ll try to do it every week if I get enough interest. Thanks!
