From The Couch – Tyler Lockett’s Career Game Against The Cardinals

It was a big day for ex-K-State receivers in the NFL yesterday.  Byron Pringle ran back a kickoff return for a touchdown for the Kansas City Chiefs and Tyler Lockett caught a career high 15 catches for 200 yards against the Arizona Cardinals.  There were lots of props for Lockett yesterday about some of his amazing catches.  Let’s take a look…

“He just made so many special plays, he was unbelievable. Just the post-route that he caught in the back of the end zone, that was just an amazing catch by him.”…Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks quarterback

JM:  Check out the catch Wilson is referencing in the quote above…

“According to ESPN Stats & Info, Lockett became the first player with at least seven receiving touchdowns and 500 receiving yards in his team’s first six games of the season since Calvin Johnson in 2011.”…Lindsey Wisniewski, NBCSports.com

JM:  Lockett has been very impressive so far this season.  He’s also getting mentioned with some hall of fame Seawawks…

“The 28-year-old receiver also joined Steve Largent in becoming the second Seahawks receiver with 200 yards in a single game and tied Largent’s club record with 15 catches in a single-game.”…Lindsey Wisniewski, NBCSports.com

JM:  That’s some good company to be only the second Seahawks receiver with a 200 yard game along with a hall of famer in Steve Largent.

“Tyer Lockett set the tone on the first play from scrimmage. The Seahawks receiver was jammed at the line of scrimmage by Pro-Bowl cornerback Patrick Peterson, and Peterson was stride for stride with Lockett as the two ran down the field, but as the two jostled for position, Lockett reached out his left hand and hauled in a diving, 1-handed grab for the 34-yard gain.”…John Boyle, Seahawks.com

JM: Take a look at Lockett’s one handed catch here…

“Tyler Lockett’s game was just crazy. He just did so many terrific things, so many special plays. He’s just a great football player, and he showed it again.”…Pete Carroll, Seahawks head coach

JM:  Pete Carroll wasn’t done with his praise for Lockett…

“He did everything. He ran great routes, he got open, he scrambled to get open. He caught and ran the football. Just available to Russ all night long. The great touchdown catches, what we’ve seen him do—we figured it because Tyler did it, he was in bounds before we could even see the replay, that he would have figured that out, and he did. I still haven’t seen the play clearly, but I know what he was doing, he was dragging his toes and he just made an extraordinary catch. It’s one thing to make a catch like that sometime in your life, but to do it every time you get a chance, it’s pretty crazy, and particularly under pressure and the stress of the game and the situation and all that. He’s a phenomenal, phenomenal football player.”…Pete Carroll, Seahawks head coach

JM:  That’s two “phenomenal’s,” just in case you missed it.

Here’s a video of Locket’s three yard touchdown catch…

It was a great weekend to be a K-State fan with tons of highlights both Saturday AND Sunday!
