From The Couch – The Scoop On Jerome Tang’s Second Commitment, Camryn Carter

Jerome Tang’s second commitment came from Mississippi State transfer guard Camryn (Cam) Carter. Carter played in 27 games as a true freshman, averaging 2.2 points per game in 8.5 minutes per game. His season high point total was 15 points against Alabama on February 16th. He got some good minutes in the three games following the Alabama game, but averaged a little over a point per game in those contests. His minutes played diminished after that. I found some high school highlights of him that showcase his athleticism. 247Sports had him rated as a four-star prospect out of high school, ranked 114 overall. Rivals had him rated as a three-star player, ranked 148 overall. It’s always a good thing getting a consensus top-150 player.

JM: Mississippi State made the NIT this past season, losing to Virginia in the first round. Carter announced his transfer after head coach Ben Howland was fired and Mississippi State hired Chris Jans from New Mexico State. It is interesting that Jans was a rumored candidate for the K-State job. Here’s a look at Cam Carter’s stats at Mississippi State.

JM: An interesting way to look at the stats is to project the stats to what they would look like if he had played 40 minutes per game. In that case, he would have averaged 10.3 points per game. Why he didn’t play more is anyone’s guess.

I found a few videos of his play from high school and this one is probably the best one to show what he can do.

JM: The first thing I thought of when I heard that Carter played at Oak Hill is that is the program that Michael Beasley played for.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Carter can do in a Wildcat uniform.
