From The Couch – The Latest Buzz On The Basketball Coaching Search
Coaching searches are always fun to follow. There are lots of rumors to sift through and lots of buzz around the candidates. It appears that there are a couple of top candidates for the K-State job, and number one on the list is Illinois head coach and former Wildcat Brad Underwood.
JM: Underwood was asked specifically about the K-State opening during a press conference yesterday. Here is the video….
JM: Any body language experts out there? I have my personal opinion after watching the video. When reporters asked Bill Self if he was a candidate for the Oklahoma State opening, his alma mater, he simply said that he is not a candidate and that they should go a different direction. When Underwood was asked about the K-State opening, he first said that he wouldn’t discuss any conversations he has had before saying that he loves Illinois and is happy there. This was his chance to publicly say no to K-State and he didn’t take it. Am I reading too much into his answer? Perhaps.
JM: I found this tweet from Jeff Goodman interesting. I believe Baylor assistant coach Jerome Tang is of interest to K-State and a lot of other programs. Hadn’t heard any buzz around Golden or Jans until I saw this come across my timeline.
JM: McCasland is another possibility that’s been talked about as a candidate for multiple openings. McCasland took the Mean Green to the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament last year and an NIT berth after this season. I’m not sure if there are any legs to this rumor at all, so I’m not going to do a deep dive into McCasland. He might be a hard sell to the K-State fan base.
Stay tuned. It’s going to be an interesting week or two.

McCasland at N Texas has a good retention with his players other than they are enticed to higher div schools such as Texas and T A& M he recruits well! If we don’t get Underwood and l always want plan B
