From The Couch – “It’s been a long, long year…”
Nobody expected K-State to beat Texas Tech today, but some fans and the media are sure treating this loss as a moral victory. Bruce Weber’s Kansas State Wildcats have lost their last 10 games by an average of 18.6 points. Today they lost to Texas Tech 73-62. Despite the 11 point loss, the media treated Bruce with kid gloves in the post-game press conference. Here’s a sampling of some of the questions:
“Did you think this was the best all around effort in terms of energy that your team has showed?”
“How impressive is it to see the intensity from this team without having DaJuan Gordon?”
“Is this a game where you guys had Tech’s number in order to keep it competitive?”
And here are the resulting article headlines I found online:
“Kansas State losing streak continues, but Wildcats show fight against Texas Tech “…Wichita Eagle
“K-State’s energy not enough against Texas Tech”…Topeka Capital-Journal
For the record, Texas Tech beat K-State by 11 points in their first meeting on January 5th, the same margin of victory as in this game. One reporter actually asked if they have Tech’s number. Huh? Look, I understand it’s gotta be a tough gig to be a reporter for a team that loses all the time and the need to try to find and write something positive. Heck, I write a blog about the teams and I try to keep things as positive as I can. However, questions such as these do not reflect the anger and frustration of the fan base as a whole. This post-game presser was like watching a celebration rather than the 10th blowout loss in a row.
If I was a reporter, I would ask Bruce what got him so hot and bothered that he threw a fit like a three year old on the sideline during the first half. Nobody asked him. Next, I’d ask him why the K-State basketball team and coaches on the sideline wildly celebrate when any player makes a three-pointer when they are down double digits and then invariably give up a wide-open layup on the other end. This is something that happens all the time! It’s so frustrating for fans to watch a pathetic product like this on the floor.
Enough of the rant. I’ve forgotten my “From The Couch” format. Here’s one quote that sums things up quite well…
“It’s been a long, long year..”…Bruce Weber, post-game
JM: Amen, Bruce.

This season feels like the movie Groundhog's Day waking up to Sonny and Cher on the clock radio knowing you'll wake up there again regardless of what you do.
Very true!
