From The Couch – Dylan Edwards Decommits, K-State Trending/Karaoke With Jerome Tang Is A Must Watch!

You read that right. “K-State” is trending on Twitter in July. Why? It’s not because of a huge football or basketball win. It’s recruiting buzz, both football and basketball, both positive and negative. But mostly positive! Here’s the latest….

JM: This is quite the bummer, but as Edwards was making headlines winning foot races against some of the fastest high school talent in the country, some of the “big boys” took notice.

JM: Notre Dame offered Edwards a scholarship and invited him to visit campus. The news got out before Edwards de-committed and some K-State fans were in denial that this visit meant much. I know there are a lot of Notre Dame haters out there, but when the Irish call and offer you a scholarship and invite you to visit campus, you go. I don’t care if you’re already committed somewhere or not. It turns out that he must have liked it, because he announced his de-commitment from K-State the day after his visit to South Bend. Rumor is that he didn’t tell the K-State coaches prior to de-committing, as they found out on Twitter like everyone else. So Edwards burned that bridge and K-State is moving on. Fortunately for K-State, there are other high-profile running backs that are interested in the Wildcats. Four-star running back John Randle out of Wichita Heights is interested in K-State and appears to be favoring the Wildcats. Texas recently extended an offer to Randle, so this recruitment will be interesting to watch.

JM: At least Avery Johnson is staying put. Losing Edwards is not nearly as big of a deal as losing Johnson would be. I think K-State will be fine in the long run. When you recruit at the level K-State football is recruiting at now, stuff like this is likely to happen more and more.

JM: Don’t you love vague tweets like this? Let the speculation begin as to what Maligi was talking about. All signs point to Florida transfer Keyontae Johnson committing to the Wildcat basketball team, as he is visiting Manhattan this weekend. Johnson is a former four-star guard and first-team all-SEC selection. He collapsed in a game against Florida State in December of 2020 and hasn’t played since. He has served as a manager for the Gators since that time, but entered his name into the transfer portal this spring. Here are a couple of articles I found about him….

JM: K-State is taking a flyer on Johnson, but if it works out they’ll look like geniuses.

JM: Obiazor is listed as a defensive end, but at least one site has him listed as a tight end commit to the Wildcats. He is from Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

JM: Four-star Class of 2023 shooting guard RJ Jones is visiting K-State on Wednesday. It looks like the Wildcats have a good shot at landing him.

JM: Kaden Cooper is a four-star small forward ranked as the number 45 player in the country, according to 247Sports. This is another recruitment to keep an eye on.

JM: Thomas is a Class of 2025 point guard prospect. One of his teammates recently said that Thomas is one of the top freshmen in the country.

โ€œMeleek is by far the best freshman in the state and I feel like heโ€™s a top 10 freshman in the country,โ€ said teammate L.A. Pratt, a Duquesne-bound senior. โ€œHeโ€™s really special. He plays with maturity. He plays with confidence. Youโ€™d think he was a senior.โ€

Thomas played for new K-State assistant coach Rodney Perry. Speaking of which…

JM: They finally made it official. Perry has coached some of the top high school talent in the country and is a huge addition to Jerome Tang’s staff. A lot of the players he coached are considering coming to K-State.

JM: Another Gramatica wants to be a kicker? Yes, please!

JM: Surprise, surprise. He won the kicking competition. Offer that kid a scholarship. Yesterday!

And finally, this video posted by K-State assistant basketball coach Jareem Dowling on Twitter and Instagram of new head coach Jerome Tang showing off his karaoke skills last night is a must watch! I love these guys more and more each day. Watch via the link below on Instagram or on Twitter.

  1. Hey Joe,
Your initial feeling about Dylan Edwards may have been right but wait till ND deals with him and he realizes what a mistake in coaching staffs he passed upped! Collin Klein more playing time! Sooner! Iโ€™ve got a good feeling about Basketball if staters give Tang and Company a chance! Thanks for sharing as alway best article !
