From The Couch – Basketball And Football Recruiting Updates

It was a big weekend for Chris Klieman and the football Wildcats and a disappointing day for Jerome Tang and the basketball Cats, when one of their top transfer targets decided to stay put. Here’s the scoop….

JM: K-State was a possible destination for Antoine Davis, along with Maryland, Georgetown, and BYU. After all the hubbub, he decided to stay at Detroit-Mercy after reportedly landing a six figure Name, Image, and Likeness deal with a Chinese company called Glow Balls….

JM: So he decided to stay at Detroit-Mercy to sell glow balls? Alrighty then. Good luck to him. Seems like a big waste of time to go through the whole process.

JM: K-State got deeper at the cornerback position over the weekend with this commitment from Fullerton Junior College transfer Jordan Wright. Wright was offered a scholarship by Kansas, West Virginia, and Florida State. Beating out Florida State for a recruit is still a big deal, in my opinion, and he should see the field quite a bit as a backup corner.

JM: Frias is a transfer running back from Modesto, California Community College and has three years of eligibility remaining. Rivals has him rated as a three-star player. He ran for 851 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. He’ll add much needed depth to the running back position.

JM: Safety Drake Cheatum transfers to K-State from Prairie View A&M, which is the school that Reggie Stubblefield transfered from. He started all 12 games last season and has one season of eligibility remaining.

JM: Wide receiver Jadon Jackson transfers in from Ole Miss as a former three-star recruit. He’s got good size at 6’1″, but didn’t see the field much at Ole Miss. We’ll have to wait and see how much of an impact he will make.

JM: Per BetOnline, K-State has the second-to-worst odds to win the Big 12 conference this fall. Would I put 10 bucks on it at 50 to one? Probably, but it’s not a good sign that oddsmakers do not think K-State has much of a shot to compete for the championship this season.
