K-State opens the 2021-2022 basketball season tomorrow night, hosting Florida A&M in Bramlage. The game is at 7:00 and will be broadcast on ESPN Plus. Here are five facts about Florida A&M….

1) Their nickname is “The Rattlers.” The mascot “Venom” is kinda cool. And he likes to dance…

2) This is Florida A&M’s first year in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) after moving from the MEAC. Prairie View A&M is the favorite to win the conference this season.

3) They are a guard-heavy team. Senior MJ Randolph averaged 15.9 points and 6.6 rebounds a game last season and sophomore Jalen Speer averaged 11.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

4) Their head coach is Robert McCullum. He is familiar with Manhattan, as he was an assistant coach for Lon Kruger’s 1990 K-State basketball team and coached with Kruger during both his stints at Florida and Illinois until the 2000 season. He was hired as head coach at Western Michigan in 2020.

5) Florida A&M is located in Tallahassee, Florida. They had an enrollment of 7,402 in the fall of 2020.
