From The Couch – “We still think we are the best in the Big 12.”

Chris Klieman and a handful of K-State football players addressed the media yesterday and there were some eyebrow-raising quotes to discuss. Also in the news, there is a basketball scrimmage before the football game on Saturday and a K-State semi-finalist for the William Campbell trophy. Let’s go….

“I would say not likely this week. He’s doing more things. Maybe late in the week we’ll have a better understanding, but right now I would say no. It’s going to be Will (Howard) and Jaren (Lewis). Our hope all along was the open week getting him a chance to be back for Iowa State. That’s kind of the timetable.”…Chris Klieman, 9/28/21

JM: So Skylar Thompson will be back for the Iowa State game? I’m holding him to that.

“Yeah, we believe so. I think right now he’s (Will Howard’s) banged up – a lot of guys are – but I believe over the next two or three days, some of the soreness will come out, and I think he’ll be effective.”…Chris Klieman, 9/28/21

JM: Was Will Howard injured in the game or was he just sore? Or is he sore because of the injury? Sometimes the press doesn’t ask follow-up questions so we get stuck with vague answers like this.

“They’re going to be prepared, and I think we’ll get Oklahoma’s best.”…Chris Klieman, 9/28/21

JM: I think so, too. In my best Han Solo voice…”I have a bad feeling about this.”

“Yeah, I would say we’ve seen kind of the same schemes, to be honest with you, whether it was Stanford to Southern Illinois, Nevada to Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State probably had better players than the other three teams did, but we’ve seen nine guys in the box, 10 guys in the box, and we were able to rush the football.”…Chris Klieman, 9/28/21

JM: If K-State can’t run the football against Oklahoma, I’m afraid what the final margin of victory might be.

“Coming into this week, now we’ll get Jake (Rubley) and Max Marsh more reps and ready to play, because I don’t know about Will (Howard), Skylar is doubtful, so who’s the next guy coming in? I couldn’t tell you who that would be. We’re hoping that Will progresses this week, and I firmly believe that Will will be fine come Thursday. He was a little bit sore yesterday, but the injury that he sustained, I know he’ll get better this week.”…Chris Klieman, 9/28/21

JM: More vagueness about Howard’s injury. At least Rubley and Marsh are getting more reps. I’m ready to see what Rubley has to offer.

“It’s like we forgot how to play, basically our rules and principles. We just felt like we didn’t get the right checks, but then we switched in the second half and shut them out.”…Felix Anudike-Uzomah, 9/28/21

JM: I’m still not sure why the K-State defense no-showed in the first half against Oklahoma State. I just hope it doesn’t happen again.

“We still think we are the best in the Big 12.”…Felix Anudike-Uzomah

JM: Really? I’d like to see some evidence of this.

“Fans can catch a first glimpse of the 2021-22 Kansas State men’s basketball team on Saturday morning, as the Wildcats will hold an open practice from 11 a.m., until 1:30 p.m., CT at Bramlage Coliseum prior to the Oklahoma football game.”…www.kstatesports.com

JM: Can someone attend this and take notes for me? I’ll be eating brats and burgers and having some refreshments at my tailgate during this time. #apathy
