From The Couch – Football News, Avery Johnson, Ayoka Lee, And Men’s Basketball

We’ve got K-State football news and K-State women’s basketball and men’s basketball news today. Let’s get into it….

JM: The K-State/Arizona “non-conference” football game this fall will be on Friday, September 13th. Friday night college football games? What a joke. This is a very bad idea and I hope it doesn’t continue into the future. How many out of towners will be unable to make it to watch this game? It will be interesting to see what attendance is, or isn’t, for this game.

JM: The media had access to today’s K-State football spring practice. They all seemed infatuated with what Avery Johnson was doing out on the field….

JM: It’s only a practice, so I’m not drawing too many conclusions based on a few video clips, but Avery Johnson looks pretty good.

JM: I’m pretty sure we already knew he could do more than run.

JM: Lee was named to the third team. Here are the first three team selections:

First team:
Caitlin Clark, Iowa
JuJu Watkins, USC
Hannah Hidalgo, Notre Dame
Cameron Brink, Stanford
Liz Kitley, Virginia Tech

Second team:
Angel Reese, LSU
Paige Bueckers, UConn
Kamilla Cardoso, South Carolina
Raegan Beers, Oregon State
Jacy Sheldon, Ohio State

Third team:
Ayoka Lee, Kansas State
Dyaisha Fair, Syracuse
Alissa Pili, Utah
Aaliyah Edwards, UConn
Madison Booker, Texas

Congratulations to Ayoka Lee. Speaking of Lee, she, along with the K-State women’s basketball team, posted a “good luck” video to the men’s team….

JM: There were rumors that Arthur Kaluma and Tylor Perry would not be playing against Iowa tonight, but now it appears they are. At least they made the trip. But Tang issued a message to any player not giving 100%….

JM: Could we see a lot of the Wildcat freshmen tonight? It wouldn’t surprise me if we do.

JM: Iowa is favored over K-State by 5 1/2 points as of this writing. The Hawkeyes finished 18-14 overall on the season, 10-10 in the Big 10. They beat Northwestern, Michigan State, and Wisconsin during the season. All three made the tournament. Iowa has a similar resume as K-State this season, minus the top-10 wins that the Wildcats have. I expect this game will be close throughout. The game is at 8:00 central time tonight and will be broadcast on ESPN.
