From The Couch – K-State Is The Best Place To Be In The Nation!?
Princeton Review released their annual “Best Colleges” rankings and K-State did really well in their survey of students across the country. Jerome Tang and his K-State basketball staff are still recruiting their tails off, the newest football Lockett is on campus, and a new K-State podcast is set to hit the airwaves. Here are the details.
JM: K-State was ranked number one in “Best quality of life,” which is based on student ratings of the beauty, safety, and friendliness on campus, among other ratings. Below is a breakdown of their top 20 rankings, most of which are in the top 10.
JM: It is interesting to look at these, but I question some of them. Does K-State have the number six athletic facilities in the country? Probably not. But the impression of the students is that they are top-notch.
JM: It’s nice to see K-State making Fall’s top seven, but how likely is it that he will choose to come to K-State? At this time he doesn’t have an official visit scheduled to Manhattan. He did say this about the K-State coaching staff..
“I have a good relationship with coach (Jerome) Tang. He was recruiting me while he was at Baylor. He’s a good guy, really honest. I have a good relationship with the other coaches on the staff as well.”…Baye Fall, 8/19/22
JM: Fall will likely end up at Arkansas, but the fact that he is even considering K-State is a good sign for the Wildcat basketball program.
JM: What I really like about K-State basketball recruiting is the level they are recruiting at. They are targeting mostly four-star and above talent and mostly top-100-ish players. That’s what you have to do in order to consistently compete in college basketball.
“They are one of the schools that have been on me the most. Even before Peach Jam they have been in contact with me the whole time. The coaches were at all of my games. They like dogs, they like real dogs.”…Mouhamed Dioubate, www.circutscouting.com, 8/18/22
JM: Like “dobermans?” Mitch Holthus coined the K-State basketball team “The Dobermans” due to their aggressive play and how they attacked the ball on the boards going after rebounds. That’s what I tought of when I read Dioubate’s quote. To say this K-State basketball coaching staff is attacking recruiting aggressively would be an understatement.
JM: Will we see Sterling Lockett on the field during games this fall? A redshirt seems more likely, but you never know.
JM: BLEAV is a nationwide, regional sports network producing sports and entertainment shows and podcasts. They reached out to me recently about my interest in co-hosting a podcast about K-State sports. Former K-State football player Reggie Blackwell has agreed to co-host the show with me. Reggie currently hosts a sports talk show on 590 The Fan in St. Louis. We’re excited about this new venture and hope to get the first podcast recorded soon. Hope you all give it a listen!
