From The Couch – CATS WIN! Team And Fans Celebrate In Grand Fashion!

It was a, shall we say, interesting win against Iowa State yesterday? The Wildcats got behind 13-0 to start the game, but clawed their way back to send the game into overtime. An overtime session that they dominated, eventually winning 75-69. The team and some fans celebrated beating the last-place Iowa State Cyclones like they had just won the national championship. I still find it really odd, but after each victory the Weber supporters like to climb to the mountaintops like Rocky Balboa screaming “DRAGO” in Rocky IV. I imagine them getting to the top and screaming “BRUUUUUUUCE! BRUUUUUUUCE! BRUUUUUUUCE!!!”

But, I digress. Let’s take a look at some of the reactions during and after the game, as it was all over the map.

JM: I wouldn’t characterize it as a “simple pleasure,” but this comment is true, nonetheless. You can hate him and like him numerous times within the same game, and sometimes within minutes, or even seconds, your opinion might change. I find it maddening.

JM: The Wildcats fell behind 13-0 in this game. Ho, hum. Another in the long list of slow starts for Bruce Weber’s team.

JM: Did they? Or did you play a bad team at the right time?

JM: Three wins away from being in consideration for the NCAA tournament. They’re still pretty far off the bubble.

JM: Was Marquis Nowell doing his worst Patrick Mahomes impression? Ignoring the coach’s wishes?

JM: I don’t blame Stefan. This happens to a lot of us!

JM: Pat Forde is a basketball writer for Sports illustrated. Many of the national college basketball reporters were watching the end of this one and they were not impressed.

JM: The end of regulation was simply inexcusable. The Wildcats made some shots in overtime and won, but if they had lost Weber would have faced the ire of the fans instead of the love.

JM: Davis is a college basketball reporter for CBS and he was also watching the end of this game. He watches a lot of basketball and he called it the worst final possession he’s seen all season. Quite a statement.

JM: Another national sports writer chimes in to call it the worst possesion of “all time.”

JM: Weber was geting a lot of love after this one. I’m not exactly sure why.

JM: Yeah, the Bruce Weber Era is alive for at least seven more games.

JM: This was the prevailing wisdom from K-State fans watching the last possession of regulation.

JM: If that’s a wig, it doesn’t look nearly as good as Bill Self’s wig.

JM: Colonel Sanders would be proud of that hair. Or would he?

JM: It’s true, it’s true.

JM: K-State hosts West Virginia Monday at 6:00. Is West Virginia the worst team in the league or is Iowa State? I guess we’ll find out.

JM: I don’t know how realistic it is knowing the history of Bruceketball. They can lose any game left on the schedule and they can also win any game left, except for Kansas in Lawrence. In fact, the game in Lawrence is likely to be a bloodbath. The Bruce Weber supporters will be hiding again after that one.

JM: Are they? I’m not going to bother looking it up and it doesn’t matter anyway.

JM: There is no doubt that the players love Bruce Weber. My preference is a lot more wins and a coach that is respected.

JM: Are they really “Road Dawgs?” They are 3-3 on the road in conference games and 3-4 if you count the Ole Miss game.

I’m often accused of being too negative when commmenting about the K-State basketball team, but I’m just giving my honest-to-God opinions. Two things can be true at the same time. I can be happy with a win and still want the head coach replaced. I’m sure not going to celebrate a regular season win against the worst team in the league. It’s not my style.

Enjoy the game Monday night, everyone! Hope the Cats can get a win!
